Fight the white

Almost everything we eat turns to glucose which is our primary energy source. Most of our energy comes from carbs but choosing the good carbs vs the bad ones doesn't have to be that difficult or challenging. Rule of thumb....don't choose a carb that has less than three grams of fiber. Fiber slows the release of glucose in our system for a more sustained energy level. The higher the fiber content, the better. Consuming foods that have a low fiber content gives you a flash of energy and then it's down hill from there. I.E. White bread, baked potatoes, white rice, pastas are poor carb / food choices. You might as well eat a candy bar. There are great choices in these food areas that have high fiber content. Don't be fooled by "multigrain" breads either. Sometimes it is white bread with a smattering of seeds on the crust. Look for whole grains! Best of all, check the fiber content on the food label.
